Beautiful beaches

Vila Nova de Milfontes boasts some of the most stunning beaches in the region, such as Praia dos Aivados and Praia do Malhão. These unspoiled shores are surrounded by cliffs, dunes and clear waters, making them perfect for swimming, sunbathing and surfing.
Protected nature

The area is also home to some of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in Portugal, including the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, a protected area with numerous hiking trails and scenic vistas.
Local Cuisine

The town is famous for its fresh seafood and traditional Portuguese cuisine, focusing on dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, such as grilled fish and octopus. There are plenty of small cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from, where you can sample the local cuisine and relax with a drink or two.
My favorite is Porto das Barcas. The sympathy of the owner, Sofia, and the wonderful dishes they serve make this place a must-try if you’re in the area.
Historic sites

The town has a rich history and cultural heritage, with several historical sites to explore, such as the Forte de São Clemente, a well-preserved 17th-century fortification, and the Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça, a beautiful construction with Rococo influences.
Festivals and events
Vila Nova de Milfontes is also known for its lively events, such as the Village Festivities, an annual celebration of the town’s religious and cultural heritage that runs during the summertime and includes a religious river procession. Also, being somewhat near Zambujeira do Mar, it’s chosen as a sleeping base by many festival-goers participating in the Sumol Summer Fest music festival.
Also, here are some tours suggestions for you:
Getting there
Vila Nova de Milfontes is a two-hour drive from Lisbon, with most of the route done by highway, which is paid. But if you want to reduce costs and have time to spare, I suggest getting off the highway in Alcácer do Sal and driving down the coast.
Be sure to rent your car with Rentalcars since you get the best prices in the market.
If you prefer to travel by bus from Lisbon to Vila Nova de Milfontes, you can use the Rede Expressos.
Best time to go
It depends on what you want. Winter and spring will be your best bet if you want a more calm and relaxing vibe. But be advised that many places take vacation time during wintertime. On the other hand, if you prefer the best weather and to get access to everything Milfontes has to offer, the summer months are when the village is at its full force.
Where to stay
The last time I was in Vila Nova de Milfontes, I stayed in a rural hotel called Moita Mar, but there are plenty of places to stay in and near this Alentejo village.
Vila Nova de Milfontes is a beautiful and charming destination perfect for those looking for a relaxing holiday surrounded by breathtaking scenery, rich culture, and a friendly atmosphere. Whether you are a surfer, a nature lover, a beachgoer, a foodie, or a history buff, this town has something for everyone.
