1. Who I am
marleneonthemove.com is the website of Marlene Marques, a travel journalist and self-employed professional based in Ericeira, Portugal. For anything related to these Terms, write to info@marleneonthemove.com.
By using this website, you accept these Terms. If you buy a course or another digital product, section 7 also applies.
2. The website
This website publishes travel content: articles, guides, itineraries, videos and, from now on, courses and other digital products. What I write is based on what I have seen and done. Prices, opening hours and rules change: always check before you travel.
3. Copyright
All content on this website (texts, photographs, illustrations, videos and course materials) is mine, unless stated otherwise, and is protected by copyright.
You may read, save and print anything for your own personal use. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, publish, sell or distribute the content, in whole or in part, without my written permission.
You may quote short excerpts, as the law allows, as long as you credit the source (Marlene Marques / Marlene On The Move) with a link to the article.
Unauthorised copying and use of content are punishable by law, and I reserve the right to take legal action.
4. Affiliates, partnerships and advertising
This website is supported by advertising and affiliate links.
- Affiliate links. Some links lead to booking, insurance, connectivity and travel gear services, through Travelpayouts (which brings together several affiliate programmes) and brands I work with directly: Heymondo, Holafly, Iati, get (powered by NOS), Level8 and Rachel Bloom. If you book or buy through them, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. I only recommend what I have used or would use.
- Partnerships and press trips. When an article results from a trip offered or paid for by a brand or organisation, I say so in the article itself.
- Advertising. Ads on this website are managed by Mediavine (see sections 10 and 11). I do not choose each ad that appears.
5. Liability
I do my best to keep the information accurate and up to date, but I am not responsible for errors, for changes made after publication, or for decisions made based on the content.
I do not control the websites that links lead to, what they sell or their privacy policies. A link is not a guarantee.
Articles reflect my opinion, but I follow journalistic standards regarding facts, sources and the people identified.
I may suspend the website for technical or other reasons, and I am not responsible for interruptions beyond my control.
6. Comments
Comments are a space to exchange ideas about the topics of each article. To comment, you leave a name and an email address (the email is not published). Your IP address is recorded to prevent abuse and spam.
The following comments are not accepted:
- offensive, threatening, discriminatory or illegal ones;
- advertising, spam or repeated messages;
- off-topic ones;
- those containing other people’s personal data (addresses, phone numbers);
- those impersonating someone else or infringing copyright;
- those containing viruses or malicious code.
I may decline to publish, edit or delete comments that break these rules. Each comment reflects only the opinion of its author.
7. Buying courses and digital products
Prices and payment. Prices are in euros and include VAT at the applicable legal rate. Payments are processed by Stripe, by card, MB WAY, Apple Pay, Google Pay or other methods available at checkout. I do not store your card details.
Invoice. An invoice-receipt is issued for each purchase and sent to the email address used to buy. If you want your tax number on it, add it at checkout or reply to the access email.
Delivery and access. As soon as your payment is confirmed, you receive an email with your access. Video courses are accessed through a password-protected page. Access has no expiry date: it lasts for as long as the course is available. If the course moves to another platform or address, I will send you the new access by email, free of charge. If I ever stop offering a course, I will give at least 60 days’ notice, so you have time to finish it and save the PDF materials.
Personal use and copyright. Courses and digital products are mine and are protected by copyright. When you buy, you receive a personal, non-transferable licence: the access is yours alone.
You may not:
- share the password or the access link with anyone else, including family or friends;
- download, record or copy the videos;
- send, publish or make available the PDFs and other materials, in whole or in part;
- use the content in third-party classes, workshops or courses;
- resell or give away access.
These courses are my work, and selling them is what allows me to keep making them. Anyone who gets access without paying for it is using work they have not paid for. If someone asks you for access, send them the link to buy it.
Protecting access. I may change the password whenever I consider it necessary. When that happens, all students receive the new one by email. If I find that someone has shared their access, I may stop sending them new passwords, without a refund, and I reserve the right to take legal action for copyright infringement.
Right of withdrawal. As a rule, distance purchases come with a 14-day period to withdraw without giving a reason. For digital content, this right no longer applies once access begins with your prior express consent and your acknowledgement that you thereby lose it (Article 17(1)(m) of Portuguese Decree-Law No. 24/2014, implementing Directive 2011/83/EU). By accepting these Terms at checkout, you request immediate access to the content and acknowledge that you lose your right of withdrawal.
If something goes wrong. If a video does not play or something is missing, write to me at info@marleneonthemove.com and tell me what happened. I read every email and reply myself. I will do what I can to sort it out as best I can.
If we still cannot reach an agreement, you may turn to an alternative consumer dispute resolution body, such as CNIACC (cniacc.pt).

9. Newsletter and emails
You only receive the newsletter if you ask for it, on the website or at checkout. Anyone who buys a course or product receives the emails for that product (access, how to use it and a request for feedback) and, occasionally, information about my other courses and guides. You can stop receiving these messages at any time, using the link at the bottom of every email.
10. Cookies
Cookies are small files that the website stores in your browser. I use them for:
- Essential functions: needed for the website and the course area (for example, remembering that you have entered the password). They do not require consent.
- Advertising: Mediavine and its partners use cookies to show ads, including personalised ads (section 11).
- Embedded content: YouTube and Vimeo videos may use cookies from those platforms.
On your first visit from the EU, you are asked for consent to non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time through the website’s privacy preferences link, or delete and block cookies in your browser settings. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised.
11. Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)
The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.
First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The “help” feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.
Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.
The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:
- IP Address
- Operating System type
- Operating System version
- Device Type
- Language of the website
- Web browser type
- Email (in hashed form)
Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.
If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance’s AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.
For specific information about Mediavine Partners, the data each collects and their data collection and privacy policies, please visit Mediavine Partners.
12. Travelpayouts and other affiliate links
Some booking and product links on this website work through Travelpayouts or directly with brands I work with (Heymondo, Holafly, get (powered by NOS), Level8 and Rachel Bloom). When you click one of these links, those services may collect data, such as the click and the booking or purchase, to record the commission, in accordance with their own privacy policies. I recommend reading them before you book or buy.
13. Changes
I may update these Terms when the website or the law changes. The date of the latest update is shown at the top. Purchases already made are governed by the Terms in force on the date of purchase.
