Where to travel in 2025

AFRICA

Cameroon

Often dubbed “Africa in miniature,” Cameroon is a destination where the natural diversity and cultural heritage are surprising, especially for visitors from other continents.

This country offers beautiful beaches in Kribi, with palm trees stretching as far as the eye can see, and national parks such as Waza, a refuge for lions, elephants, and giraffes in the middle of the savannah.

The capital, Yaoundé, has a unique atmosphere, with street markets where vendors display colorful fabrics and local handicrafts.

As for the cuisine, you can expect a mix of French flavors and African spices.

Cameroon also has a vibrant music scene, with Makossa and Bikutsi rhythms. Ask the locals where you can hear them. It’s always a great excuse to strike up a conversation.

Why visit?

Wild, unspoiled beaches in Kribi and Limbe.
Diverse and authentic culture with fascinating tribal traditions.
Unique biodiversity in the national parks, ideal for nature lovers.

Surfing in Cameroon

Cameroon’s Atlantic coast offers spots for those exploring wilder, less frequented waves. The best bet is Kribi, a beach break that may work all year round, mainly with southwest swells.

NORTH AMERICA

Santa Barbara, California, USA

Santa Barbara is a real gem in California, even more so if we’re talking about surfing. But we’ll get to that.

Located between the mountains and the Pacific, the city is perfect for those who want to relax but with a touch of sophistication. Don’t miss State Street, with its boutiques and restaurants serving fresh seafood.

Also, explore the region’s wineries, known for their award-winning Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.

In addition, Old Mission Santa Barbara, with one of the most beautiful and well-preserved churches in California, transports visitors back to the Spanish colonial era.

If you love outdoor adventures, the Santa Ynez Mountains have wonderful trails with panoramic views over the ocean.

Why visit?

Relaxed coastal experience with a Mediterranean climate.
Award-winning wineries and exquisite local cuisine.
Spanish-influenced culture and historic architecture.

Surfing in Santa Barbara

Rincon Point (my favorite!), known as “The Queen of the Coast,” and Leadbetter Beach offer consistent waves for surfers of all levels. Be sure to check out my article on other surf spots to discover in California.

Cozumel, Mexico

Mexico is one of those countries that jump off travel lists year after year, but I propose you go to Cozumel, a tropical destination that combines nature with a relaxed pace of life.

This small piece of land in the Caribbean is famous for its coral reefs, which attract divers from all over the world. The Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park is a protected area where you can explore the marine life, including turtles and tropical fish.

In addition to aquatic life, don’t miss out on adventures on land. Visit the Mayan ruins of San Gervasio, an archaeological site that will transport you to the origins of this fascinating civilization.

Why visit?

Relaxed tropical island atmosphere.
Impressive marine life and protected coral reefs.
Authentic and accessible Mayan culture.

Surfing in Cozumel

Although surfing is less popular here, spots like Punta Morena, Playa Morena, or Chen Rio can offer good surfing conditions at specific times of the year.

If you’re looking for a destination to travel in 2025 surrounded by ancient traditions but with a touch of modernity, Peru is a great choice.

Lima, the capital, is a world gastronomic center where dishes like ceviche are elevated to an art form. Stroll through the bohemian Barranco district, with its colorful streets and relaxed atmosphere.

Then, travel north to the Piura region to enjoy the sun and the sea. Máncora, a small coastal town, is known for its beaches (and surfing) and year-round warm climate. Here, you can relax in bungalows overlooking the ocean and unwind.

Why visit?

World-class surfing with consistent waves.
Internationally recognized gastronomy.
Rich and diverse culture with a heritage that spans centuries.

Surfing in Peru

Punta Hermosa is one of the best surf spots in the region, with more than 10 surf spots to explore. Máncora is also among Peru’s best places to surf, especially between April and October.

In the far south of Italy, Reggio Calabria is a mix of idyllic beaches, historical heritage, and authentic culture.

Explore the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, home to the famous Statues of Riace, and stroll along the Lungomare Falcomatà, “the most beautiful kilometer in Italy.”

Why visit?

Surfing in Reggio Calabria

The Ionian Coast offers some surf spots to explore. Take note: Bova, Le Serre, Spartivento and Condojanni. However, the region is also known for its wind and is therefore famous among windsurfers and kitesurfers.

Cork is a city full of charm, where Irish tradition can be felt in its streets.

Visit the English Market to sample local produce or explore the surrounding castles and cliffs.

Cork is also the starting point for discovering the Wild Atlantic Way, one of the world’s longest (and most beautiful) coastal routes.

If you’re curious about other destinations in Ireland, take a look at the places I visited during my week-long trip there.

Why visit?

Ideal base for exploring the coastal landscapes.
Vibrant and authentic cultural scene.
Delicious cuisine, including fresh seafood.

Surfing in Cork

Near Cork, beaches like Inchydoney and Lahinch offer some of the best waves in Ireland. But be prepared for cold water.

You’ve probably never heard of the Outer Hebrides (I hadn’t before this article), but these islands in Scotland are gorgeous.

You’ll find wild beaches, ancient castles, and a rich Gaelic cultural heritage here. Time has stood still here, so it should definitely be among the places to travel in 2025!

Why visit?

Perfect destination for those seeking isolation and tranquillity.
Authentic and preserved Gaelic culture.
Unspoiled natural beauty, from the mountains to the shores of the Atlantic.

Surfing in the Outer Hebrides

Scotland is best suited to experienced surfers looking for adventure. If you meet the requirements, look out for the beaches of Lewis and Harris.

This natural paradise is perfect if you want to escape the hustle and bustle. With its white sandy beaches and unspoiled forests, Aotea combines peace and adventure.

The island also offers incredible hiking trails that cross volcanic landscapes and beautiful coves.

Unspoiled nature and stunning landscapes.
Quiet and welcoming community.
Excellent for hiking, stargazing, and natural explorations.

Surfing in Aotea

The island’s beaches offer good waves, perfect for surfers who prefer quiet spots. The best-known is Awana. This reef break is pretty consistent and offers waves all year round. However, keep an eye out for currents… and sharks.

Last but not least among the destinations to travel to in 2025 is Fiji, a true paradise that has always been on my bucket list since forever.

This archipelago in the South Pacific is known for its turquoise waters, luxury resorts, and a growing commitment to sustainability.

With their hospitality, the Fijian people make the experience even more special.

Why visit?

Incomparable natural beauty and paradisiacal beaches.
Opportunities for diving and snorkeling on coral reefs.
Rich and authentic local culture, with traditional celebrations.

Surfing in Fiji

Cloudbreak and Namotu are known worldwide for offering world-class waves. So much so that if you’re traveling to Fiji between August 27 and September 4, you’ll be able to watch the finals of the World Surfing Championships in Cloudbreak.
